Bradford Kirkgate sponsors this year’s Secret Santa Appeal

The Secret Santa Appeal is providing a gift for needy children throughout the Bradford district, Calderdale and Kirklees.

Every year, JCI Bradford teams up with and and local businesses to collect Christmas presents via pop-up collection points or running mini appeals within businesses.

This year, Bradford’s Kirkgate Shopping Centre has kindly sponsored the appeal to demonstrate how worthwhile the project is to the community.

The Kirkgate have been involved with the Secret Santa Appeal from the very early years.  The Kirkgate staff and management have offered a great deal of support for the appeal from providing storage space, collecting gifts for the appeal, supporting the volunteers who attend the appeal stand and ensuring that running the appeal stand in the Kirkgate goes smoothly and safely.

The Kirkgate’s support has contributed to the success of the appeal today.

Catherine Riley, Kirkgate Shopping centre manager, said: “Christmas at Kirkgate Shopping is going to be even more special this year because of our partnership with JCI Bradford on this wonderful Secret Santa Appeal, which we’re delighted to be sponsoring and hosting.

“Whatever your budget, you will be helping a child in need this Christmas if you come to Kirkgate Shopping, grab a tag then buy a gift for that young person.”

JCI Bradford leads the way with the annual Secret Santa Appeal starting originally in 1989. The appeal provides a great opportunity for JCI members to learn and practice skills in project management and people management as well as being active citizens.

The appeal collects over 5,000 presents each year. This project is one of the largest of its kind in the country and we would like to thank each and every person who has donated a present via our Secret Santa Appeal stand in the Kirkgate Shopping Centre, Bradford, Queensgate Market, Huddersfield, Eureka! the national children’s museum, Halifax and The Mill Outlet, Batley as well as the many businesses, schools and organisations that have helped to make a needy child’s Christmas that bit more special.

The appeal runs between the end of November and mid December.

That’s why JCI Bradford has since 1989 run the annual Secret Santa Appeal with help and support from the Pulse radio station in Bradford and many other organisations and companies throughout the region.

From the end of November until mid December (just 16 days) an average of 5,000 brand new presents are collected to be passed on to deserving children who otherwise would have seen Christmas come and go without even realizing.
