Bradford Libraries will be celebrating World Book Day next week.
World Book Day is on Thursday, 7 March and there will be a wide range of activities to encourage children to celebrate and discover their local library and reading.
There will be two special story events especially for younger children and their families at Bingley Library 10am until 11am and Burley Library 1.45pm to 2.45pm with “Ned go to bed” author Cathy Oakley Calvert and illustrator Margaret Swift and a special appearance from Ned the sheepdog.
Children can hear about Ned’s adventures and then have the opportunity to create, using images from the book, their own Ned storyboard with illustrator Margaret Swift. Both events are free drop-in with the opportunity to buy signed books. Ned was very popular on his last visit to Bradford Libraries, so get there early to secure a front row seat.
On the same day, from 2pm until 6pm, Heaton Hub Community Library will be decorating the library with Story- Bunting and making mini story-books while library volunteers will be reading aloud their favourite picture books every half hour.
Menston Library will see staff dressing up as characters from the picture book Room on the Broom for their after-school story and craft at 3.30pm.
Laisterdyke Library at 5pm will be making your own Dalmatian based on the book 101 Dalmatians, one of this year’s World Book Day books. The activity is suitable for families with children up to 11 years.
Wibsey Library, will be making Cat book-marks following the story Wishker from 3.45pm.
There is also a special World Book Day story time at Shipley Library on Thursday, 7 March at 2pm and at Baildon Library at 2.30pm. World Book Day will be celebrated at Ilkley Library on Wednesday, 6 March from 10.15am and Silsden Library 1.30pm – 2.30pm. A full listing of all Bradford Libraries World Book Day events can be found at www.bradford.gov.uk/libraries. All events are free.
