City Park presented a magnificent show stopping performance over the weekend when thousands gathered to watch the fantastic performers and the Christmas lights being switched on.
On 15 November people gathered around City Park to watch an exquisite aerial show by internationally celebrated Belgian street theatre troupe, Theater Tol, which featured beautiful costumes, breathtaking aerial gymnastics, haunting live music and a stunning 3D projection set, Pedaleando Hacia El Ciel or ‘Pedalling Towards Heaven’ was unforgettable.
Beautiful angels gracefully floated above the crowd while being pedalled into City Park on giant tricycles. Remaining on their bikes, the acrobats were hoisted over 100ft in to the air and ‘pedalled’ around on a giant rotating mobile. Theater Tol’s glamorous soprano sang a powerful atmospheric soundtrack while suspended below the mobile.
Colourful lighting, fireworks and balloons brought additional visual drama to the show which ended with a sparkling finale. Local choirs were also part of the occasion singing festive songs and Christmas carols.
Bradford’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Mike Gibbons lead a countdown and switched on Bradford’s Christmas illuminations. He said it was a fantastic opportunity for “People to come together and enjoy free entertainment.”
The Bradford lights switch on was a huge success and a great way to begin the festive season.
