Dewsbury Care Home up on the rise following poor reviews

By ANISAH ARIF

A care home in Dewsbury, that received poor ratings from inspectors, is on the up and go after receiving “Good” rating in all areas.

Ashworth Grange in Dewsbury became controversially popular when it hit the headlines in January earlier this year, after it was revealed the owner, Ideal Carehomes, tried to get a court injunction to cover up the fact it had received a poor review.

The home found itself to be put in special measures for a second time, after inspectors found it to be “Inadequate”, with the main problem being insufficient senior staff on duty at night.

Almost a year on and the home is now celebrating after being rating “Good” in all five key areas tested by Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

The home’s manager Cheryl Green said: I am so grateful for the support that Ashworth Grange has received over the last 12 months.

“From local nurses, GPs, social workers and neighbours, through to our staff, relatives and of course our residents – everyone has been with us on this journey.

“As well as the hard work of my staff team, it is that belief and encouragement which has helped us to go from strength to strength and has now resulted in the rating we deserve.”

Inspectors were particularly impressed with the day to day activities that are available for residents and the new technology that has been brought on board, helping staff to effectively manage detailed care plans and giving them the time to deliver person-centred care.

Inspectors saw staff talk about residents with genuine care, concern and knowledge, using this to engage them in a meaningful way.

They saw people laughing and smiling and residents looking comfortable and relaxed, making their own choices about their daily lives.

Cheryl continued: A manager is only as good as her team and I believe I have the very best in every area at Ashworth Grange.

“The team gives 100% and the ‘Good’ rating really is down to them.

“I would also like to thank the inspection team as we feel the report has captured exactly what we have aimed for and reflects our continued commitment and dedication to our home.

“We are now working hard to make Ashworth Grange the first ‘Outstanding’ care home in Dewsbury!”
