If you are anything like me, a ‘young and dashing’ Asian lad, then you will remember the days of Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram. This Pakistani duo in the 90’s with their reverse swing deliveries were the pin-up boys of Pakistan cricket, for want of a better way phrase.
In that era, many a young player and fan (including me!) idolised these two men and dreamed of being like their heroes (in my case, it was wanting to be like Wasim Akram). Some of these fans and young players have gone on to carve out a career in the world of cricket, and now you may have the chance to as well.
Courtesy of the Adil Rashid Cricket Academy, from Thursday 18th February you can start your dream of being a professional cricket player, thanks to fast bowling classes taught by ex-Yorkshire bowler Moin Ashraf.
Over the course of four weeks Moin will help you learn skills that the great Wasim and Waqar possessed, such as death bowling and swing and seam variation.
If fast bowling isn’t for you, feel free to try the spin bowling classes which start a few days earlier on Monday 15th February. These sessions offer the chance to learn the different variations of spin, and learn how to bowl spin in the pressure of a match environment.
For your chance to take the steps to live the cricketing dream, head down to St Bedes and St Joseph’s Catholic College from 8pm-9pm for both sessions (fast bowling and spin). The sessions will be charged at £10 per person per session.
