Kirklees launches recruitment process for new teacher training programme

By ANISAH ARIF

A Kirklees teacher training programme is now recruiting for September 2019.

The Kirklees and Calderdale School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) is recruiting for its 2019 training programme and will be holding two special events in the coming weeks.

Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT is a highly respected provider of initial teacher training and has many years’ experience in offering placements.

The advantages of training through a SCITT include, instead of being based in a Higher Education setting, people benefit from working in a school from the start of the course and training alongside experienced teachers.

Trainees are in school from day one, learning from teachers and putting skills into practice from the beginning. Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT runs a high-quality training programme, preparing people to make a real difference in young lives and to be an outstanding teacher in the future.

Recent trainee John Hill said: “This has been a new lease of life for me and has given me the opportunity to do something I always wanted to do. I have enjoyed almost every training session and, even though I feel there is such a lot to learn, the feeling of seeing a classroom of children responding to your teaching is an amazing experience.”

The service has a proven success rate in securing jobs for trainees. There is constant demand from head teachers looking to recruit from a SCITT – in 2016/17, all 49 trainees secured jobs and in 2017/18 100% of the Secondary trainees seeking jobs and 17 of the 22 Primary trainees were successful.

Jack Conway added: “I would highly recommend the Kirklees and Calderdale SCITT course. Their use of expert lecturers, the support from staff and fellow students has been paramount in my development as a teacher. The chance to learn while working on the job is also a valuable experience.”

You can now enquire about places for the September 2019 training programme and more details are available from ‘Train To Teach’ information sessions on Monday 12 November  and Monday 10 December  (both 5-6pm) at the SCITT training centre, adjacent to John Curwen Primary Academy, Leeds Old Road, Heckmondwike, WF16 9BB. There are also events in Leeds and Bradford – see their website for full listings
