Rapper Kanye West, who now goes by the name Ye, has deleted his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing significant backlash for a string of controversial posts. The move comes in the wake of multiple anti-Semitic, misogynistic, and homophobic messages, which sparked widespread criticism.
Ye’s last post and account deactivation
In his final post before deactivating his account, Ye claimed his posts were being restricted, and expressed frustration over being unable to trend during the Super Bowl. He revealed plans to move to a different platform, announcing he would set up a Discord channel on his website.
“MY TWITTER REACH HAS BEEN LIMITED SO I AM NOT ALLOWED TO TREND DOING SUPER BOWL. I AM SETTING UP A DISCORD CHANEL ON MY WEBSITE. WELCOME TO AMERICA,” read Ye’s post.
Following this, Milo Yiannopoulos, associated with Ye’s Yeezy brand, confirmed that Ye had deactivated his X account and directed media inquiries to his firm, Tarantula.
“Ye has deactivated his X account for the time being. For comments or questions, please reach out to my firm at my@trnt.la,” said Yiannopoulos.
Unexpected Super Bowl ad and Diddy’s legal troubles
The deactivation came shortly after Ye’s controversial Super Bowl commercial, which aired nationwide. In the ad, Ye humorously claimed to have spent all the production funds on dental work, leading him to shoot the commercial using only an iPhone. The ad encouraged viewers to check out his Yeezy.com website.
Ye also stirred controversy with his comments on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal battle. Combs is facing serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, and Ye took to X to voice his concerns. He criticized Hollywood figures for not speaking out in Diddy’s defence and demanded that Donald Trump intervene to help Diddy.
“Donald Trump, PLEASE FREE MY BROTHER PUFF,” Ye wrote in one of his posts.
With Ye’s X account deactivated, fans and media alike are now left wondering whether he will continue to make his views known through other platforms, or if he will stick to his plans for a Discord channel.
