Batley will mark International Women’s Day 2019 with events at Batley Library and Bagshaw Museum on Saturday 9 March.

Poetry will take centre stage in Batley Library from 12-2pm as local poets gather to share and listen to poetry about and by women. The event, which is being run by the Batley Poets, will be hosted by student and BAME Ambassador Sophie Patel.

Over at Bagshaw Museum, a delve back in time as five Victorian women will be the subject for a ‘Female Connections’ talk by Catherine Hall, revealing how they are linked to the history of Kirklees Museums and their collections. The women will include a doctor’s wife with a passion for Egypt, an engineer’s daughter who travelled the globe, a wealthy widow with a love of animals and a world famous author.

The free illustrated talk starts at 2pm and can be booked on the day at the museum reception.
