‘The Vicar of Dibley’ actor Trevor Peacock has sadly passed away age 89. The actor was best known for his role as Jim Trott in the series. The cheeky character was much beloved by viewers for his hilarious wit and double entendres.
Today (March 9), Peacock’s family have released a statement: “Trever Peacock, actor, writer, and song-writer, died aged 89 on the morning of March 8th from a dementia-related illness.”
Star of ‘Dibley’, Dawn French took to her Twitter to share a photo of herself with Peacock, captioning her post, “Night Trev. I love you.”

Peacock began his career in the 1960s and was well known as a songwriter before his success as an actor. He wrote several pop songs for multiple artists such as ‘Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter’ sung by Herman’s Hermits.
He was also well-known as a Shakespearean actor having appeared in many productions including the BBC’s Henry V and Twelfth Night.
