‘The Last of Us’ season two to premiere in April with seven episodes

Fans of The Last of Us can mark their calendars, as the critically acclaimed series will return this April. While an exact premiere date is yet to be confirmed, the news was revealed by co-creator, writer, and executive producer Neil Druckmann during Sony’s press conference at CES on Monday. The much-anticipated second season will consist of seven episodes.

Picking up five years after the events of season one, the new chapter delves deeper into the lives of Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), and Joel’s brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna) as they navigate an even more perilous post-apocalyptic world.

Season two introduces several new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, a pivotal figure who takes centre stage in the newly released teaser trailer. The 30-second teaser showcases a mix of previously revealed footage and fresh glimpses of the storyline. Fans can expect tense and dramatic interactions, including scenes featuring guest star Catherine O’Hara alongside Pascal’s Joel, as well as new cast members Jeffrey Wright and Isabela Merced.

Returning star Rutina Wesley reprises her role as Maria, while the season also welcomes new cast members Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Based on the highly praised video game franchise, The Last of Us is co-written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. Other executive producers include Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells. Halley Gross, a writer and co-executive producer, also joins the creative team.

With its gripping narrative and powerhouse performances, season two is set to continue the series’ legacy of thrilling storytelling. Fans can expect more updates, including the official premiere date, in the coming weeks.
