Farhan Akhtar has announced that the highly anticipated animated film Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama will now release in India on 24 January 2025. Originally scheduled for release on 18 October 2024, the postponement was shared via Akhtar’s Instagram.

Directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan, the film is a Japanese-Indian adaptation of Valmiki’s Ramayana and features music by Vanraj Bhatia. Acclaimed screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, known for his work on Baahubali, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and RRR, has been brought on board to oversee the creative adaptation of the film. His involvement aims to ensure that the movie resonates with contemporary audiences while preserving the timeless essence of the epic.

Originally released in 1992, The Legend of Prince Rama was the result of a unique collaboration between Indian animator Ram Mohan and Japanese filmmaker Yugo Sako. Even though it faced controversies and a ban, the film was celebrated for its seamless blend of traditional Indian mythology and Japanese animation techniques, using hand-drawn animation to create a visually stunning experience.

The re-release will cater to modern audiences, with updated features and availability in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu. Distributed by Excel Entertainment, the project is being led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, who aim to reintroduce this classic to a new generation of viewers.

Fans eagerly awaiting the film’s return can expect a nostalgic yet refreshed take on one of India’s most treasured epics, brought to life with international collaboration and artistic finesse.
