As the New Year begins, Netflix offers a new and exciting release with the documentary The Roshans, which delves into the extraordinary legacy of the Roshan family. The trailer, unveiled in Mumbai just a day before Hrithik Roshan’s birthday, takes viewers on a journey through the remarkable history of this iconic family in the world of Indian cinema.
The 3-minute trailer opens with Hrithik Roshan playing a cassette recording of his grandfather, the legendary composer Roshan. With evident pride, Hrithik shares, “That’s my grandfather’s voice. His full name was Roshan Lal Nagrath. It’s a very interesting story how our surname went from Nagrath to Roshan.”
The documentary traces the legacy of the Roshans, beginning with the patriarch Roshan Lal Nagrath and continuing through his sons Rakesh Roshan and Rajesh Roshan, and ultimately to Hrithik Roshan, the star grandson. The story showcases how each generation has left its mark on the entertainment industry, from music to acting and filmmaking. However, the journey of success also comes with its own set of challenges, as seen in the trailer, which highlights the dramatic incident in 2000 when Rakesh Roshan was shot at by members of the Budesh gang near his office in Santacruz, Mumbai.
The trailer also teases a star-studded line-up of cameos, with notable figures such as Asha Bhosle, Shatrughan Sinha, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Anu Malik, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Prem Chopra, Vicky Kaushal, and Ranbir Kapoor sharing their thoughts and impressions of the Roshan family.
Netflix announced the project in December via an Instagram post, which read: “A profound journey through legacy and love with the family that brought music, magic, and unforgettable moments to Hindi cinema. Watch The Roshans, coming soon, only on Netflix.”
Produced jointly by Rakesh Roshan and Shashi Ranjan, The Roshans will be available for streaming on Netflix starting 17 January 2025.
