Akshay Kumar, affectionately known as Khiladi Kumar for his breathtaking stunts, has also won hearts with his comedic timing in films. One of his most iconic performances was in the 2007 horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which has since achieved classic status. Despite the film’s massive success and the creation of two sequels, fans were disappointed when Akshay didn’t reprise his role in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 or the upcoming Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
In an exclusive chat with Pinkvilla, Akshay shed light on the reason for his absence from the franchise. Addressing a fan’s comment about skipping the sequels due to his absence, the actor candidly stated, “Beta, mujhey nikaal diya tha (I was removed). That’s it.”
During the conversation, Akshay also shared an update on another beloved franchise, Hera Pheri. The actor expressed his eagerness to begin work on the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3, saying, “Even I am waiting to start Hera Pheri 3. I don’t know, but if everything goes well, it will start this year.” Reflecting on the series’ legacy, he added, “When we started Hera Pheri, we didn’t know it would go ahead to become such a cult. Even when I saw the film, I didn’t understand. Yes, it was funny, but none of us expected the characters of Babu Bhaiya, Raju, and Shyam to become a cult.”
Akshay also praised his co-star Paresh Rawal, calling him “a very funny person in real life too.” The duo recently worked together on the sets of Bhoot Bangla in Jaipur. Sharing some behind-the-scenes fun, Akshay said, “During Hera Pheri, we had a lot of fun, but there are some things which can’t be said on camera.”
While fans may have missed Akshay in the Bhool Bhulaiyaa sequels, his excitement for Hera Pheri 3 and his enduring camaraderie with co-stars promise more laughter and nostalgia for audiences in the future.
