Ever since Farhan Akhtar announced Don 3 in 2023, the film has been at the centre of heated debate. While some fans were excited about Ranveer Singh stepping into the legendary role, others were reluctant to let go of Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic portrayal. From admiration to scepticism, the reactions were mixed:
“No one will match the coolness and charming aura of SRK. But good luck, Ranveer.”

Despite the initial uproar, the makers remain confident in their vision. And now, fans finally have an update-Farhan Akhtar has confirmed that Don 3 is set to go on floors this year!
While currently busy filming 120 Bahadur, a biopic on Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, Farhan briefly addressed Don 3 in an interview with News18. When asked about the film, he stated:
“I am not dodging any questions. Don 3 is starting this year, and 120 Bahadur will be released at the end of the year.”
This marks the first concrete confirmation of Don 3’s production timeline, putting an end to months of speculation.
Pre-production for the film is already in progress, with Kiara Advani locked in as the female lead. But before the action-packed franchise returns to the big screen, both Farhan and Ranveer have other major projects to wrap up:
Farhan Akhtar is focused on completing 120 Bahadur, which is expected to release later this year.
Ranveer Singh will first finish shooting Aditya Dhar’s espionage thriller Dhurandhar, where he stars alongside Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Arjun Rampal.
Ranveer’s last big hit was Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), where he played the flamboyant Rocky Randhawa opposite Alia Bhatt’s Rani Chatterjee. He also made a cameo in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again (2024), adding more firepower to the filmmaker’s cop universe.
Replacing Shah Rukh Khan in a role that has defined cool for over a decade is no small feat. But with Farhan Akhtar at the helm and Ranveer’s infectious energy, Don 3 has the potential to carve its own legacy.
