Meghan Markle is back in the spotlight – but this time, she’s swapping royal dramas for tea parties and life hacks in her new Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

The lifestyle show, which dropped on 4 March, sees the Duchess of Sussex invite celebrity friends over to share personal stories, cooking tips and glimpses into her life in California. But one off-the-cuff comment in the first episode has already set social media ablaze.

While preparing sandwiches in the garden with Mindy Kaling, Meghan playfully declares, “I’m Sussex now” – a nod to her royal title and family name.

What seemed like a light-hearted remark quickly divided the internet.

On one side, fans celebrated the duchess for owning her title with pride.

“Yess ma’am, you’re The Duchess of Sussex. Don’t play with her!” one supporter wrote.

But not everyone was charmed, especially those hailing from Sussex itself.

“I’m from Sussex and giving this woman a title with my home county in it… sucks.”

Others questioned the whole concept of adopting Sussex as a surname at all.

“Sussex is a place, not a name – you’re on another continent where your titles mean 💩.”

Meghan’s choice of words might have been a passing comment – but it’s become the latest flashpoint in the never-ending royal discourse.

Love her or loathe her, one thing’s for sure: Meghan knows how to get people talking.
