The murder count is rising once again at the Arconia and Keegan-Michael Key is set to join the chaos.
The Key & Peele star has been locked in for a recurring role in the highly-anticipated fifth season of Only Murders in the Building, reported Deadline. While the makers are keeping character details under wraps, fans are already placing their bets – will Key be the show’s next comedic suspect or an unfortunate victim?
The latest season will centre around the investigation of Lester’s murder – the beloved Arconia doorman played by Teddy Coluca. Production is already underway in New York, with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez reprising their roles as the unlikely crime-solving trio.
Key’s addition marks the first major casting announcement for the upcoming season – and judging by the show’s star-studded track record, he likely won’t be the last big name to join the roster.
The actor, known for his sharp comedic timing, has been on a roll lately – lending his voice to Bumblebee in Transformers One and Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, alongside appearances in Abbott Elementary, Reboot, and the Christmas comedy Dear Santa.
While fans are excited to see what Key will bring to the whodunnit series, some have already cracked their own theories.
One fan on X (formerly Twitter) quipped:
“He’s either the killer or the next victim… so we’re definitely keeping an eye on him.”
Another wrote:
“How many murders can possibly happen in one apartment building? The Arconia needs to be shut down by now.”
A third fan pleaded:
“Good lord, please cast him to just play a character – not another smug celebrity cameo like in seasons 2 & 4.”
Season four of Only Murders in the Building featured its starriest cast yet, with Meryl Streep, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Melissa McCarthy, and Kumail Nanjiani all making appearances. The series even bagged its first Screen Actors Guild Award this year for Best Comedy Ensemble – with Martin Short also winning his first SAG Award for his performance as Oliver Putnam.
