The Vvaan release date has been postponed: Sidharth Malhotra just avoided the most awkward box-office clash of the year.

Vvaan announced by TVF

The makers of The Vvaan announced this week that the highly anticipated fantasy thriller starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia has been rescheduled from its original release date of 28 August 2026 to 25 September 2026.

Sharing the news on X, Malhotra unveiled an eye-catching new motion poster with the tagline: “Baagh uski dahaad hai… Nandi uski shakti. Aur Vvaan… uski kahaani,” which translates to, “The tiger is his roar. Nandi is his strength. And Vvaan is his story.”

The motion poster itself is worth discussing. Shot from an impressive top-down angle, it features a lone warrior standing boldly between a circling bull and a tiger, trishul in hand, all set against a dense forest backdrop.

This artwork is rich with symbolism; the bull symbolises Nandi, Shiva’s sacred vehicle, while the tiger draws on Central Indian folklore.

This hints at a film that aims to explore mythological themes with a level of ambition Bollywood seldom attempts.

The poster’s captivating imagery, combined with earthy tones and an intense background score, has already sparked considerable excitement among fans online.

The official reason for the delay is extended post-production, particularly the decision for additional shooting to enhance key sequences, including the climax.

The filmmakers wanted to ensure they met the film’s high ambitions, especially for a project focused on fantasy action with impressive visual effects and expansive world-building in the deep forests of Central India.

Given the history of VFX-heavy Indian productions that often take longer than expected, this proactive decision makes perfect sense.

Moreover, the competition in the original August release window was hard to overlook. If The Vvaan had stuck to its 28 August 2026 release date, it would have faced fierce competition just two days after Yash’s Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups (releasing on 26 August 2026) and on the same day as Shraddha Kapoor’s Eetha.

Such a three-way clash featuring one of India’s most anticipated films, a Bollywood Lavani biopic, and a folklore fantasy would likely have been disastrous for all involved.

By moving to September, The Vvaan now enjoys a clear release window without major competition, giving it the space it deserves to shine. What’s also sparked a lot of discussion on social media is the casting of Kiara Advani in Toxic, who is married to Sidharth Malhotra. The couple tied the knot in February 2023 and welcomed their daughter, Saraayah, in July 2025. A box-office clash between their films would have made for entertaining chatter but could also have been unproductive for both at the ticket counters. By shifting to September, Sidharth has cleverly avoided what could have been Bollywood’s most talked-about marital box-office dilemma of the year.

Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and written by Arunabh Kumar — the brain behind popular shows like Pitchers, Kota Factory, and TVF AspirantsThe Vvaan: Force of the Forest marks an exciting collaboration in Bollywood. The Viral Fever, known for its innovative digital storytelling, is now venturing into bigger theatrical projects, partnering with Balaji Motion Pictures, owned by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R. Kapoor. This move towards a large-scale, mythology-driven film is a bold step for them and brings together the storytelling flair of TVF with Balaji’s robust production capabilities, which is one of the film’s most fascinating behind-the-scenes aspects.

Set in the enchanting deep forests of Central India, the film promises a world brimming with hidden secrets, supernatural elements, ancient temples, and mythical legends. Tamannaah Bhatia takes on the female lead, marking her first on-screen collaboration with Malhotra, while the supporting cast includes talents like Sunil Grover, Maniesh Paul, Shweta Tiwari, and Anup Soni. The blend of comedic and dramatic talent suggests that The Vvaan will balance its grand fantasy elements with a touch of heartfelt human connection.

So far, fan reactions to the change in release date have been overwhelmingly positive. Many have praised the decision as a wise strategic move, pointing out that releasing in a less crowded September gives The Vvaan a much better opportunity to connect with its audience. One fan even shared, “Sidharth deserves a big hit after Shershaah. Hope this one matches his dedication!”

As of now, no major Hindi film is officially scheduled for 25 September 2026, giving The Vvaan one of the clearest release windows any Bollywood film has had this year.
