Madonna’s unplanned fall at the Brit Awards

Madonna has given music fans a shock when she tumbled down several stairs at the Brit Awards.

The 56-year-old queen of pop was closing Wednesday’s ceremony in London with a performance of her song “Living For Love.”

madonna-fallMadonna entered with a troupe of male dancers and appeared to fumble with a long, flowing cloak she was wearing. A member of the troupe yanked on the garment, which was tied at the neck, but rather than come off it pulled Madonna backward down three steps while her dancers looked on, seemingly in shock.

In a post on Instagram after the performance, Madonna said she was doing OK.

“My beautiful cape was tied too tight! But nothing can stop me and love really lifted me up!” she wrote. “Thanks for your good wishes! I’m fine!”

The song includes a lyric about stumbling, then continues “I’m gonna carry on” – and Madonna did, continuing the matador-themed routine.

The fall drew an instant, and mostly sympathetic, reaction from ceremony attendees and television viewers.

“I feel for her,” singer Ashley Roberts told ITV news. “She’s a pro, though, and she kept going.”

Kanye West and Taylor Swift also performed at the Brit Awards, the U.K. equivalent of the Grammys.

Labour Bradford West PPC Amina Ali steps down due to family commitments

0

amina-ali-labour-500x375As Labour’s Bradford West PPC Amina Ali steps down from her position, she releases the following statement:

“It is an honour and privilege to have been selected by members of Bradford West as the Labour candidate for the General Election. In all the years I have been a member, being chosen to fight a seat for the Party I love has been my dream.

“However, I am the mother of two children and despite my best efforts to make arrangements to bring them to Bradford for the next 70 days, particularly as one of them is doing her GCSEs, this would have caused massive disruption at a critical time. I would not be able to do justice to the members of Bradford West CLP and the people of Bradford.

“Bradford West needs a candidate who is going to live in Bradford and be involved in the campaign for every moment of every day and I am unable to fulfil this commitment despite a strong wish to support the Labour Party to victory. The decision taken now will enable a new candidate to be selected for Bradford West to win the seat back for labour.

“I remain very proud that I was the first British Somali woman ever selected to contest a target seat and I will continue to work within the Labour Party in the future and during the campaign. I am sure everyone will understand I need to put my children first.”

Commenting on Amina Ali’s stepping down sitting MP George Galloway said: “New Labour in Bradford is in shambles. Well no change there. This is playing like an outtake from The Thick Of It. Omnishambles doesn’t begin to do it justice.

“She resigned in a Tweet on Tuesday night and then took it down, presumably after the party bigwigs started trying to woo her back. And on Wednesday she says it’s all about her kids. Perhaps she looked at Bradford schools’ results and decided she couldn’t do that to them? Didn’t she think it through before she put her name forward? Of course she did and no one’s going to be taken it by that. Not even Malcolm Tucker could spin it successfully. The real reason is the war inside Bradford West Labour party and she’s retreated from it, badly wounded.”

A new candidate will now be selected for Labour as the selection will go back to the NEC (National Executive Committee) of the Labour Party to decide what happens next.

MS Volunteer of the Year teams up with dancer Aljaz Skorjanez to battle five other couples to win a Comic Relief fundraising special of Strictly Come Dancing.

The People’s Strictly, which starts on Wednesday 25th February at 9pm on BBC One, follows six lucky people, chosen from thousands of nominees to take part in their very own Strictly experience. Each of the six contributors was chosen for the tireless and selfless part they played in helping change others’ lives for the better.

624Over the next few weeks, they will be completely immersed in all things Strictly. They’ll go behind the scenes of the famous show and get their first taste of the sequins and sparkle at their very own makeover day.

One of the chosen unsung heroes is Trishna Bharadia, a Multiple Sclerosis and disability fundraiser and awareness campaigner from Buckinghamshire. Trishna was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2008, at the age of 28. She has since worked tirelessly to help and support others with MS, putting aside her own health issues to help raise awareness and inspire others with the illness. She has worked particularly hard within the Asian community, where she feels that disability is often hidden away and discriminated against, as well as with young people who have been diagnosed with MS.

Trishna volunteers was named ‘Volunteer of the Year’ at the MS Society Awards and is also Editor of the Asian MS quarterly newsletter; writes for MS and disability-awareness magazines and blogs; and speaks at both local events and large pharmaceutical conferences about MS.

Commenting on her excitement for the show, she says: “Whether or not you win, you feel as though you’ve already won. I’m getting to do things I’d never have dreamed about.”

The money raised from the show will be spent helping to change the lives of poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and across Africa.

Bradford students impressed by local policing

0

A group of recently-recruited Police Community Support Officers in Bradford have completed one of their first assignments with great success.

The PCSOs were praised after they talked to a group of students about their work at the South Bradford Vocational Centre in Huddersfield Road, Bradford.

pcsosession_mediumThe officers, who were joined by their more established colleague PCSO Denis Bennett, spoke to students from Motive8 – a local charity which provides vocational training for young people.

The students who attended were interested in a career in the public service sector, and also interviewed PCSO Bennett about his work.

Melissa Simpson, of Motive8, said “The session gave our young people focus and these officers were not much older than them, so they were more in tune with what they had to say.

“It was received with great enthusiasm and also helped them to see that their goals are possible. The students were still buzzing long after the officers had left. PCSO Bennett, who organised the visit, said:

“It was important that the new officers got to engage with these young people, and we hope the experience and positive feedback they received will help them to settle in to their new role.”

Chief Inspector Sarah Baker, Neighbourhoods lead for Bradford District, added “This is an excellent example of working with young people to engage with them, support them and help them to understand policing in Bradford.”

DDLJ’s record breaking run at Maratha Mandir comes to an end

0

After a historic 1000 week run, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge made its final curtain call at the iconic Maratha Mandir today.

DDLJ-ForeverPost the 1000 week celebrations last December, the theatre had requested YRF to pre-pone the DDLJ morning show to 9:15 AM instead of 11:30 AM as it was becoming difficult for the cinema to accommodate multiple new releases every week with just 3 regular shows.

Of course YRF obliged from 13th Feb 2015. However, while the theatre management was happy to continue the film for as long as it continued to draw in the audiences, owing to logistical issues of their staff having to work inordinately long hours to accommodate an additional early morning show, it was mutually decided to end the films historic & record breaking run.

After playing for 1009 uninterrupted weeks, the films unprecedented performance has come to an end at the Maratha Mandir. The film played out in the 9:15 AM show today for the last time at the theatre.

However, this endearing and endless romance will continue to live in our hearts forever…

The movie released on 20th October 1995 and is in its 20th year of uninterrupted run.
