A judge presiding over Jay-Z’s child rape case has criticised the rapper’s legal team for their “relentless” attacks on the woman accusing him and Sean “Diddy” Combs of assaulting her when she was 13. The case, involving serious allegations of rape, continues to unfold after a preliminary hearing in Manhattan, where Judge Analisa Torres ruled that the Alabama woman, who claims she was assaulted by Jay-Z and Combs, could proceed anonymously in her lawsuit.

In her written ruling, Judge Torres rebuked Jay-Z’s lawyer for what she described as “combative motions” and the use of “inflammatory language” directed at the plaintiff’s attorney. The judge condemned these tactics as inappropriate and a waste of judicial resources. She also noted that such tactics were unlikely to benefit her client.

The woman, identified as “Jane Doe,” says she was living in Rochester, Alabama, in 2000 when she befriended a limousine driver who took her to an after-party for the MTV Music Awards in New York City. It was at this event that she alleges she was assaulted by Jay-Z and Combs.

Despite inconsistencies in the woman’s account, the judge ruled she could continue her case anonymously, at least for the time being. The decision allows her to maintain privacy as the legal proceedings continue, though her identity may be revealed later in the case if it proceeds to trial.

Jay-Z’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, had previously requested that the case be dismissed, citing what he called “glaring inconsistencies” in the plaintiff’s story, which was mentioned during an NBC interview. However, Judge Torres expressed concerns about the aggressive legal strategy employed by Jay-Z’s team, saying that it was unlikely to expedite the case or improve their position.

Combs, who is currently in jail awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges, also faces numerous sexual assault lawsuits, including several filed by the same lawyer representing the plaintiff in this case, Tony Buzbee. Buzbee’s firm represents over 150 individuals alleging abuse and exploitation by Combs at parties in New York, California, and Florida. The lawsuits claim that victims were drugged at these events before being assaulted.

Combs’ legal team has dismissed the lawsuits as “shameless publicity stunts” aimed at extorting money from celebrities. Meanwhile, Jay-Z has publicly accused Buzbee of attempting to blackmail him into settling the Alabama woman’s claims. Buzbee’s firm has declined to comment on the court’s decision regarding the engagement of the case.

This ongoing legal battle adds another layer to the complex and contentious personal lives of two of the music industry’s most prominent figures. The case is expected to continue with more hearings in the coming months.
