Oleksandr Usyk has expressed he would be keen on fighting the lineal middleweight champion if the offer ever arises in fighting the Mexican champion.

Saul Canelo Alvarez is set to move up in weight to face against the hard hitting Ilunga Makabu next year in May.

After clearing up the super-middleweight division and becoming the only fighter in Mexican history to become undisputed champion, Canelo seeks to continue his dominance in the cruiserweight division.

Oleksandr on the other hand became the undisputed cruiserweight champion and moved up to face Anthony Joshua who he defeated months ago.

Right now, things are quite up in the air for Usyk as he has been in talks in a rematch against Joshua or paying out Joshua to move aside for him to face against the lineal heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.

Both Usyk and Canelo have their own paths right now and it seems unlikely even if Canelo wins Makabu for Usyk to become the next challenger Canelo sets his eyes on as now being a heavyweight champion there are a lot of fights which will become mandatory for him to take on if he wishes to keep his titles.

Usyk however has agreed he would definitely fight Canelo but under one condition as he puts, “Yes, I can fight him at cruiserweight. But with only one thing – I keep my belts at heavyweight.

“Then I go back to cruiserweight and fight him and then I come back to heavyweight”.

As much of a fan favourite Usyk is, it might be highly unlikely for Usyk to do that as the heavyweight division has a lot of upcoming fighters at the moment who are all eager to become champions.

With names such as, Derick Chisora, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte it would be difficult for Usyk to keep his titles should he wish to go back down to cruiserweight and face Canelo.

What are your thoughts about Usyk wanting to face Canelo? Do you think Usyk will go down and fight the Mexican star or does Usyk attend to other business in the heavyweight division?
