For the very first time The Piece Hall in Halifax is hosting a Mela this August.

It’s part of a diverse and inclusive programme of events this summer, many of which are free to attend.

On Saturday 27 August the iconic heritage destination will proudly welcome the organisers of the biggest South Asian music and culture festival in Europe to the courtyard for The Piece Hall Mela.

The people behind Sandwell and Birmingham Mela are bringing the sights, sounds and spicy aromas of South Asia to the iconic courtyard, including music, dance, arts and crafts and family fun.

Stars on stage on the day will include DJ Manny. This exciting female DJ from Slough is known for her viral song mashups on Tik Tok and Instagram, fusing everything from Bhangra to Dancehall.

The venue will also welcome Maz Bonafide. This multi-award winning British-Asian singer and entertainer has a repertoire spanning diverse genres of music.

Expect a mesmerising, powerful and vibrant atmosphere during the performance from Chand Ali Khan Qawwal – the leading UK-based international Qawwali group.

And the energy will be high when Punjabi Roots Academy take to the stage! Famous for their remarkable performances and workshops for all ages, Punjabi Roots Academy will bring Dhol, Indian Brass Band and Bhangra dancers to the event.

There will also be free drop in Dandiya Dance and Rangoli workshops.

CEO of The Piece Hall Charitable Trust, Nicky Chance-Thompson DL, said:
“I’m incredibly proud of the programme we’ve put together this year. The range of events we’re hosting is just brilliant and so many of them are free to enter. This is really important to us as we appreciate the cost of living is a huge challenge to many families right now.
“The Piece Hall prides itself on being a real cultural hub for the whole community and I believe we are delivering that this summer. With the Mela, Pride, family fun days and artist-led craft sessions, as well as a high-energy weekend of dance music, there really is something for all the family. We can’t wait to welcome visitors from near and far to share the brilliant variety of entertainment we’ve got in store this summer at our incredibly special venue.”
