Music legend AR Rahman has unveiled the first track from the upcoming anthology My Melbourne, a cinematic celebration of identity, diversity, and cultural harmony.

The song, titled Rukhna Nahi, is a stirring ode to empowerment and unity – setting the tone for a film that spotlights stories of race, gender, sexuality, disability, and belonging in Melbourne, Australia.

The track marks the Hindi debut of renowned Afghan singer Aryana Sayeed, whose soulful vocals breathe life into Anurag Sharma’s lyrics and composition. Hailing from Kabul and now settled in London, Aryana is not only one of Afghanistan’s most influential artists but also a prominent women’s rights activist, using her voice to champion social change.

Sharing the track on social media, Rahman wrote:
“Glad to share the music of ‘My Melbourne’ with you. Best wishes to the entire team.”

The anthology brings together four celebrated Indian filmmakers – Onir, Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali, and Kabir Khan – each presenting a unique story that explores what it means to belong in a multicultural society.

With Rahman’s musical genius and Aryana’s soul-stirring voice, Rukhna Nahi offers a glimpse into a film that promises to be as much a musical journey as a cinematic one.

My Melbourne releases in cinemas across ANZ on 6 March, and in India on 14 March.
