Millie Bobby Brown is not holding back. The Stranger Things star has fiercely clapped back at the relentless criticism surrounding her appearance, calling out the “disturbing” scrutiny she’s faced for simply growing up in the public eye.
In a powerful Instagram video, the 21-year-old addressed the toxic discourse that erupted after her recent red carpet appearance at the Electric State premiere, where some online users criticised her for looking “too old”.
“I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me,” she said.
Brown, who was just 10 years old when she made her debut on Stranger Things – called out the harsh comments from adult writers dissecting her face, body, and style choices.
“The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing. Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs.”
The actress went on to say she “refuses to apologise” for growing up or conforming to anyone’s unrealistic expectations of how a woman should look.
“I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman.”
Fans, celebrities, and her own beauty brand Florence by Mills have flooded the comments with messages of love and support:
“So proud of you, Millie.”
“Calling them out by name. LOVE YOU.”
“No young woman deserves to feel pressure or cruelty for simply existing.”
Her beauty brand Florence by Mills also commented: “We love you and could not be prouder.”
