After making waves with her Oscar-nominated debut Past Lives, filmmaker Celine Song is set to bring another compelling story to the big screen – this time with an all-star cast.
Titled Materialists, the romantic comedy will see Dakota Johnson play a young matchmaker in New York City, caught between her ideal match and an imperfect ex – a classic tug-of-war between head and heart. The film also boasts an ensemble cast featuring Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, and Succession star Dasha Nekrasova.
A24 announced the release date on social media with a heart-shaped cake that playfully hints at the film’s romantic theme. The film is set to hit cinemas on 13 June – a summer release that already feels like one to mark in the diary.
Though details about the plot are under wraps, the combination of Song’s delicate storytelling and this unexpected trio of stars is already turning heads. Johnson, fresh off Madame Web, will share the screen with Evans, last seen in Pain Hustlers, and Pascal, who is gearing up for Gladiator II.
Song, who previously admitted she didn’t know she could make movies until she tried, seems to have found her cinematic groove — and if Past Lives is anything to go by, Materialists could be another poignant exploration of love, longing, and human connection.
Could this be 2025’s most intriguing love triangle?
