DC Studios co-head James Gunn has officially announced the title and release date for his much-anticipated Superman sequel. Taking to social media on Wednesday (PST), Gunn revealed that the film will be called ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’, with a theatrical release set for 9 July 2027, reports Variety.

Alongside the announcement, Gunn shared a comic book image of Superman standing beside Lex Luthor in his infamous Warsuit, a strong indication that the storyline will further explore Luthor’s long-standing rivalry with the Man of Steel.

In Gunn’s first Superman outing, Luthor’s plot to use a clone of the hero ended in failure. According to Variety, the sequel will see Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, taking matters into his own hands by donning the Warsuit to match Superman’s strength and abilities.

Back in August, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav confirmed that Gunn would return to both write and direct the sequel following the success of the first film, which grossed over $611 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing superhero release of the year.

‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ will arrive after two other projects in DC’s new line-up: ‘Supergirl’ (directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Mogueira and starring Milly Alcock), set in outer space, and the body horror film ‘Clayface’ (directed by James Watkins, written by Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie), both due in 2026.

The sequel’s release also means Superman will soar back to screens ahead of Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman Part II’, which is currently slated for 1 October 2027.
