The Delhi High Court has sought a response from Google after Aaradhya Bachchan, daughter of Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, requested that her plea to remove false content about her health be decided without hearing YouTube channels that failed to respond to the case.

Justice Mini Pushkarna issued a notice on Aaradhya’s application, seeking to proceed ex-parte as the defendants have not appeared in court. The case, filed by the minor and her father, is set for a hearing on 17 March.

Why has Aaradhya taken legal action?

The lawsuit concerns a summary judgment application filed as part of an ongoing case. On 20 April 2023, the court issued an interim order restraining multiple YouTube channels from spreading misleading information about Aaradhya’s health. The court had called such content “morbid perversity” and directed Google to remove videos falsely claiming that the 12-year-old was “critically ill” or even “no more.”

Notably, YouTube channels including Bollywood Time, Bolly Pakora, Bolly Samosa, and Bollywood Shine were summoned by the court for publishing the misleading content. The lawsuit argues that such videos contain “absolutely false” claims about Aaradhya’s health and private life, damaging the Bachchan family’s reputation. It further asserts that the Bachchan name, being “protectable as a trademark,” symbolises “the highest virtues.” The lawsuit alleges that these videos were created purely for shock value, overnight popularity, and financial gain.

Who Is Aaradhya Bachchan?

Born on 16 November 2011, Aaradhya Bachchan is the daughter of Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. As the granddaughter of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, she has been in the public eye since birth.

Despite her young age, she frequently makes headlines—whether for her appearances at high-profile events like the Cannes Film Festival alongside her mother or for legal actions taken to safeguard her privacy. Aaradhya is a student at Mumbai’s Dhirubhai Ambani International School, and Aishwarya Rai is known to be highly protective of her, often accompanying her to events and keeping her away from excessive media attention.

With the legal battle intensifying, the upcoming court ruling could set a precedent for protecting the privacy of celebrity children in the digital age.
