Remakes are a never-ending trend that are becoming more and more popular in Bollywood. We still have a sizable line-up of remakes for 2023. The Master of Real-life-based movies and remakes, Akshay Kumar, is back again with yet another remake.

Akshay Kumar will now be seen in Selfie, a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License. Starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, it also marks the first collaboration between the two actors.

On social media, there has been a range of reactions ever since the trailer was posted online. Some people believe we should quit remaking things and instead aim to be more inventive. Honestly, the business obviously needs to rely on its true stories to survive because the popularity of remakes has been overdone.

Particularly with OTT, viewers can watch movies from all over the world on their tiny screen. At this point, when remakes are presented, regardless of where in the country they are from, viewers have already seen the original and don’t want to spend their time watching a remake.

Remakes were formerly a prevalent practise in India, but because they no longer appear to be a successful commercial strategy, the producers will need to give this some serious thought. If we go back at some of the remakes from 2022, we’ll see that the majority of them had disastrous box office results. Films like Laal Singh Chadha, Vikram Vedha, Jersey, Bachchan Pandey, Nikamma, and Dobaaraa were failures that couldn’t stand the test of time. Ever though these movies have famous actors, it’s debatable why they don’t succeed: either we can’t adapt them to Indian sensibilities, or the audience has already panned the movie before it even hits theatres.

Analysing the idea of remakes and reconsidering whether it’s a safe bet to go with remakes in 2023 will allow them to chart out a better plan for themselves.
