The nominees for the BAFTA film awards have been announced. The list, as always, sees a lot of recognition for British filmmakers but also prioritises more world cinema than usual.
The British film Rocks has received its first attentions during this award season, and has walked away with seven nominations, including recognition for its young star Bukky Bakray, who is also up for the EE Rising Star Award.
As well as this, the Riz Ahmed film Sound of Metal has faired better than it has at other awards ceremonies, gathering six nominations including a Best Actor nomination for Ahmed.
The Korean-American film Minari has garnered itself six nominations, but has rather surprisingly not been nominated for Best Actor or for Best Film.
Nomadland continues its winning streak with seven nominations including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress. The Frances McDormand film appears to be the stand-out of the season, having already taken home both the Golden Globes award and Critics’ Choice for Best Film.
‘The White Tiger’ has also received two nominations: Best Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay and the BAFTAs are one of the first big awards show to honour the film.
