Following her re-election as MP for Batley and Spen, Tracy Brabin is appealing to her constituents to get in touch recommending charities to support in the forthcoming year.
Ms Brabin, Shadow Minister for Early Years, was chosen as Batley and Spen’s MP for the third time in four years in last week’s General Election.
After a successful year raising money for and supporting charities based in Batley and Spen and that do great work for its communities, Ms Brabin is appealing for suggestions for charities to support in 2020.
Members of Parliament are asked to to take part in surveys, which take time but MPs get a small thank you for giving up their time. Any money Tracy makes from these surveys she donates to her chosen Charity of the Month, and if she doesn’t do a survey that month, Tracy makes a donation of £50 herself.
Over the past year, Tracy has raised hundreds of pounds for local good causes. These include Batley Food Bank, Rainbow Baby Bank in Heckmondwike, Howden Clough Juniors FC, Downs and Special Friends group based in Batley, and Friends of Wilton Park.
Supporting charities which do great work for people across Batley and Spen is extremely close to Tracy’s heart, which is why for 2020 she is asking constituents to get in touch with suggestions of charities and community groups close to their hearts which would benefit from being Tracy’s charity of the month over the coming year.
Tracy is looking for suggestions from all across Batley and Spen for all matter of causes; from support groups for mothers, sports clubs in need of support, groups helping those in need in society and organisations focused on keeping our towns, villages, parks and streets clean and tidy.
Tracy Brabin, MP for Batley and Spen, said: “It’s been great meeting so many wonderful charities and community groups over the past three years, and I can’t wait to meet so many more.
“I’ve seen first-hand the great work these charities do, from Batley Food Bank – which is providing crucial support to people who have been plunged into poverty because of the Conservatives’ cruel austerity regime – to Rainbow Baby Bank, who I was lucky enough to welcome to Westminster for an awards evening where they were highly commended for the work they do providing essential items to new parents.
“I can’t wait to hear about the great charities doing work across Batley and Spen and to support them in 2020.”
