BBC fan favourite ‘Motherland’ is getting a remake for the US market. It has been confirmed that legendary director Paul Feig (best known for ‘Bridesmaids’) is teaming up with Lionsgate to adapt the English sitcom.

Julieanna Smolinski, of ‘Grace and Frankie’ fame, is on board to adapt the script. Whilst UK co-creator Sharon Horgan is on board to help with the adaptation, she will not be contributing to the writing team.

BBC’s ‘Motherland’ follows a team of middle-class mothers, who have to negotiate and struggle with the difficultiess of parenting. The UK series stars Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan and Lucy Punch. It is currently unknown who will be cast in the American counterpart.

Paul Feig is currently shooting for upcoming Netflix film ‘The School for Good and Evil’. Starring Charlize Theron, Michelle Yeoh, Laurence Fishburne and Kerry Washington, the film tells the tale of an institution which makes either fairy-tale heroes or evil villains out of children. It is based on the novel written by Soman Chainani, who also wrote the screenplay.
