Delhi High Court rejects Sameer Wankhede’s defamation suit over Aryan Khan’s Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood

0

The Delhi High Court on 29 January dismissed the defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede concerning his alleged depiction in the Netflix series The Ba***ds of Bollywood, directed by Aryan Khan. The court refused to hear the matter citing lack of jurisdiction and returned the plaint, allowing Wankhede to move the appropriate court, according to Bollywood Hungama.

While delivering the order, Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav said that the plaint was being returned to the petitioner to approach a court of competent jurisdiction, adding that all pending applications stood dismissed. The ruling was passed during the hearing of Wankhede’s request for an interim injunction seeking to halt the streaming of the series.

During the course of arguments, the High Court identified two primary issues for determination, whether the suit was maintainable before the Delhi High Court and whether the allegedly objectionable portrayal in the series, when assessed in its full context, prima facie amounted to defamation rather than protected artistic expression, per Bollywood Hungama.

Senior Advocate J Sai Deepak represented Sameer Wankhede in the matter. Shah Rukh Khan’s production banner Red Chillies Entertainment was represented by Senior Advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, while Netflix was represented by Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayyar.

The case stems from Wankhede’s claim that The Ba***ds of Bollywood contains a veiled portrayal of him through its depiction of a government officer, which he alleges has caused reputational damage. The officer has filed a Rs. 2 crore defamation suit, asserting that the series indirectly references the controversial 2021 Cordelia Empress cruise drug case, in which Aryan Khan was arrested and later cleared of charges.

Opposing the plea, Red Chillies Entertainment argued that the show does not depict Sameer Wankhede nor does it make any reference to the Cordelia cruise case. The production house maintained that the series is a work of fiction that broadly draws inspiration from the idea of overzealous law enforcement officers and falls within the ambit of creative and artistic expression.

According to Bollywood Hungama, with the Delhi High Court declining to grant relief on jurisdictional grounds, the legal battle is far from over. Wankhede may now approach the appropriate court to pursue his claims, while the series continues to remain available for streaming on Netflix.

The announcement has generated significant excitement among fans, as the singer has largely stayed away from large-scale live performances over the past few years.

‘Superman’ fame Henry Cavill is all set to enthrall audience with his new role in the ‘Highlander’ reboot directed by ‘John Wick’ filmmaker Chad Stahelski. On Wednesday, Henry took to Instagram and shared his look from the film.

“Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.#Highlander,” he captioned the post.

Cavill was first announced to star in the “Highlander” reboot back in 2021, and filming has finally started.

The first-look photos don’t reveal much, but they are similar to the tone and look of Keanu Reeves’ four action-packed “John Wick” movies, which were all directed by Stahelski, as per Variety.

In one photo, Cavill wields a hefty sword, and it appears it could be a globe-trotting epic based on the two different locations. Production was delayed late last year as Cavill was injured during prep for the film. The project also includes Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela and Max Zhang.

Michael Finch wrote the script, and Ryan J. Condal and Kerry Williamson had worked on earlier drafts of the film.

Eva Longoria Netflix comedy film ‘The Fifth Wheel’ is in production

0

Netflix has released first-look images from the set of “The Fifth Wheel,” the forthcoming Eva Longoria-directed, female-driven comedy starring Kim Kardashian and Nikki Glaser.

Written by Paula Pell and Janine Brito, the film is set to follow a group of high school best friends as they “attempt to reconnect during a weekend haunt to Vegas,” per the official logline. But when a “hot outsider” (the titular fifth wheel, played by Kardashian, of course) crashes their weekend, “they’re forced to face their messy lives, bad decisions and unraveling friendships.”

“The Fifth Wheel” is Longoria’s second time directing a feature film, and her first for Netflix. The “Desperate Housewives” star previously directed the Hulu and Disney+ distributed “Flamin’ Hot” back in 2023, chronicling the creation of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. In addition to Kardashian and Glaser, Fortune Feimster, Brenda Song, Jack Whitehall, Casey Wilson and Scott MacArthur round out the cast.

The comedy is Kardashian’s latest foray into acting; the reality star previously led as Allura Grant in Hulu’s legal drama  “All’s Fair” and as prominent publicist Siobhan Corbyn alongside Emma Roberts in Season 12 of “American Horror Story.” Back in June 2025, Variety reported that the multi-hyphenate would also be stepping into the villain role in a “Bratz” movie from Amazon MGM. “The Fifth Wheel” marks Kardashian’s first leading film role and first collaboration with Netflix.

The comedy joins Netflix’s recent slate of Los Angeles-shot productions, including the Ben Affleck-directed “Animals,”  Lee Sung Jin’s “Beef” Season 2,  Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monster” Season 4, Mindy Kaling’s “Running Point” Season 2, “Star Search” and “Nobody Wants This” Season 2.

The film is produced by Pell, Kardashian, Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Alex Brown for Gloria Sanchez, and Cris Abrego and Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group. Mary Bundy and David Hyman serve as executive producers. A release date has yet to be announced.

Ryan Reynolds breaks silence on Blake Lively’s unsealed texts in Justin Baldoni case

0

Ryan Reynolds doesn’t regret getting involved in the It Ends With Us drama.

One week after his and wife Blake Lively’s private messages were unsealed in her ongoing court case against the movie’s director Justin Baldoni, a rep for the Deadpool actor made it clear how Ryan feels about their texts and emails coming to light.

“Yes, Ryan got involved, what husband wouldn’t support his wife and the mother of his children?” the spokesperson told Puck News in an article published 27 January, per People. “He saw his wife fighting daily to stand up against sexual harassment in a private and respectful way, only to face retaliation for doing so.”

In fact, Ryan doubled down on his support for Blake, who he married in 2012.

“If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn’t angry enough,” the rep continued. “He passionately believes in and will stand up for the basic right to a safe workplace free of harassment and retaliation for his wife and others. Then, now and always.”

Among the unsealed docs was an alleged conversation Blake and Ryan had with Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barroso Damon, asking the couple to watch an early version of It Ends With Us.

“This movie has been one of the all time zingers on and off set,” Ryan wrote on 17 May, 2024, per the docs obtained by E! News. “One day, we’ll make a movie about the movie. And we can’t wait to tell you all about it. The stories are already finding their place in the pantheon of legendary Hollywood Insanity.”

The Emmy winner hinted that he and Blake Lively might be taking some time out of the spotlight, adding, “We’re about to be off for at least a year and a half. Maybe two years. Maybe forever? Let’s play pickleball.”

Blake then responded with “juicy stuff” about Justin, who she has accused of sexual harassment on the set of the Colleen Hoover book adaptation, a claim he has denied.

“This movie nearly killed me,” the actress wrote. “the director, costar, producer, financier, head of the studio (yes all one person) had zero experience, but the good news is he also has no taste, and an enormous ego, but only because he’s in a cult and believes he’s our century’s prophet. I wish even one of these things was hyperbole.”

After Blake and Ryan told the Damons that Justin allegedly asked about the Gossip Girl star’s weight after she gave birth, Luciana responded, “Sorry but what the actual f–k?!? He’s dead.”

After dozens of documents were unsealed, Justin’s lawyer Bryan Freedman spoke out on 21 January to defend his client.

“As stated all along, and reflected in our clients’ motions, as well as in messages from Sony discussing Ms. Lively’s behaviors, the evidence does not support [Lively’s] claims as a matter of law,” he said. “A simple read of the newly released message exchanges make the truth abundantly clear. We remain confident in the legal process and clearing the names of all the Justin Baldoni parties.”

Orry breaks silence on feud rumours with Sara Ali Khan

0

Orhan Awatramani aka Orry has been the talk of the showbiz world lately, thanks to his unhinged social media posts lately, making no efforts to hide the tension between him and old friends Ibrahim Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan. In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Orry says that he can think of letting bygones be bygones if Sara and Ibrahim’s mother Amrita Singh apologises to him.

Talking about unfollowing Sara, according to Hindustan Times, he says, “I unfollowed Sara a while ago.. and I haven’t followed Ibrahim in years.” He adds, “Pretending to be friends with Sara means pretending to be ok with the trauma her mother put me through and I just don’t think I can do that anymore.”

Asked if he can explain the trauma he is referring to, Orry refrained from answering Hindustan Times question.

Recently, Orry’s comment about Sara’s career went viral but the ‘liver’ doesn’t consider it a below the belt attempt.

“I don’t really think I said anything wrong about her.. I just made a small joke taking a dig at her career .. I highly doubt she even felt bad about it .. the whole internet makes fun of Sara’s movies all the time.. her biggest body of work is a series of memes that she’s delivered via movies.. people make fun of me being jobless all the time.. it’s not that deep,” he said, according to Hindustan Times.

While he confirms feud with Sara and Ibrahim, Orry says there is one way he can mend things with them.

“If Amrita Singh were to apologize I could maybe see myself letting it go in the future,” says Orry.

What Happened between Orry and Sara Ali Khan

Influencer and social media personality Orry has been taking digs at actor Sara Ali Khan and he doesn’t seem to stop. From calling Sara, Palak and Amrita (Singh) the worst names, to taking a jibe at Sara’s career, Orry’s social media posts have become the talk or the town! Sara too, has apparently hit back by posting the sassy song Naam Chale by Vikram Sarkar.

Orry’s actions have reportedly been irking Sara from her birthday in August last year. Orry had reportedly posted unflattering pictures of Sara to wish her, which was not appreciated by the actor. According to industry grapevine Sara’s brother Ibrahim Ali Khan, who was once a good friend of Orry also seems to have had a fall out with him.

Orry took to social media and posted a reel asking him, which are the worst names he knows. Cut to then next shot, and the names Amrita, Sara and Palak appear on the screen. These names are seemingly references to Amrita Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Palak Tiwari.

Sara Ali Khan hasn’t reacted or commented on Orry’s online behaviour directly but fans speculated that her recent Instagram story is an indirect response to Orry, according to Hindustan Times. For the story, Sara used Vikram Sarkar’s song Naam Chale, selecting lyrics that speak to living freely, avoiding calculations, and steering clear of unnecessary controversies. Though she made no mention of Orry or his remarks, the lyrics chosen by the actor didn’t go unnoticed and were widely interpreted as a subtle response.

Tyra Banks reflects on the most controversial moments from America’s Next Top Model in new docuseries

0

For years, America’s Next Top Model defined an era of television. It wasn’t just a competition, it was a cultural phenomenon that shaped early 2000s reality TV. From emotional makeovers to dramatic eliminations, the show had millions glued to their screens for over a decade. And now, Netflix’s upcoming docuseries Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model promises to uncover what really went on behind the scenes.

At the heart of it all was Tyra Banks, the supermodel who, though not present in every one of the show’s 24 seasons, defined much of its identity. Now 52, Tyra features in the new documentary, looking back on the show’s legacy and addressing its most controversial moments.

“I knew I went too far. It was very, very intense, but you guys were demanding it, so we kept pushing it, more and more and more,” Tyra admits in the trailer, as clips from some of the show’s most infamous moments flash by.

Over the past few years, America’s Next Top Model has faced growing criticism for problematic challenges and commentary on contestants’ bodies, including a now-infamous photoshoot where participants were asked to embody races and ethnicities outside their own. While the show was praised for promoting diversity at a time when the fashion industry was far less inclusive, some moments have since aged poorly under modern scrutiny.

Tyra, who has previously addressed the controversy, spoke about the show’s complicated legacy while accepting the Luminary Spotlight honor at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Awards in February 2025. “Over 20 years ago I created a show called America’s Next Top Model,” Banks said. “And you guys have no idea how hard we fought to bring the diversity to that television show at a time when it didn’t exist; to show different beauties at a time when the world was like, ‘What? You casting that?’ A time when people in the fashion industry were telling me, ‘You putting the girls from the hood on your show?’” she said, according to Hindustan Times.

She continued, “I was like, ‘Why can the girl from the trailer park become a supermodel but the girl that’s chilin’ in the park in the hood can’t?’ And we fought and we struggled and we made it happen.”

“Did we get it right? Hell no. I said some dumb s–t,” she added, drawing laughter from the crowd. “But I refuse to have my legacy be about some stuff linked together on the Internet when there were 24 cycles of changing the world. And I am so excited that I, and so many of us, have opened that door for others to follow.”

Produced by EverWonder Studio and Wise Child Studios, and directed by Mor Loushy and Daniel Sivan, the three-part Netflix series features exclusive interviews with former contestants, judges, and producers. It aims to tell the untold story of how ANTM became both a groundbreaking and deeply polarising show.

With contributions from former judges Nigel Barker, J. Alexander, Jay Manuel, and several past contestants, the series promises a raw look at how ANTM evolved and where it went wrong. Catch the show on Netflix on 16 February, 2026.
