Actress-singer Ariana Grande has paid a tribute to the iconic character of Glinda in many ways. She is currently on a press tour for her upcoming film ‘Wicked: For Good’.
She recently revealed what went into her London premiere look on Monday, 10 November. The actress, 32, worked with stylist Law Roach to create a portfolio of looks for the coming weeks, reports ‘People’ magazine.
At the London premiere, she wore a vintage black one-shoulder ballgown. But the gown was originally worn in the 1952 musical film, ‘Lovely to Look At’, and designed by famed costume designer Gilbert Adrian. The late designer is known for his work on ‘The Wizard of Oz’, and enhancing the world of Oz with Dorothy’s ruby slippers and Glinda’s bubble dress.
As per ‘People’, the gown was sourced from Los Angeles’ Lily et Cie, which stocks gowns from the 20th and 21st centuries, she told British Vogue.
Ariana Grande remarked on how special it is not only to have the piece but also to wear it during the press tour.
She said, “To now have it in our personal vintage collection, and to wear something made by him on this carpet, feels so emotional and meaningful. Law and I cried many times during this fitting”.
While she made statements in Glinda-inspired bright pink looks throughout the ‘Wicked: Part 1’ press tour, she said this time around she’s trying to channel Glinda’s darker side. She noted the looks will be “more mature (and) more emotional”.
She shared, “It still feels like an extension of Glinda’s story arc. We’re just telling a different part of her story”.
Weeks before the press tour kicked off, the stylist had exclusively teased what’s to come. The stylist told ‘People’ “Oh, baby, there’s a mood board. There are hours and hours of fitting and laughing and swearing. It’s just a lot of daydreaming and imagination”.
While he shared what fans can expect, he also revealed how gracious Grande is to the teams of people she and Roach work with.
“What people need to know about her is her gratitude and appreciation, one to be playing, you know, this role, but also, she’s so excited and grateful to the designers who are making these gowns and dresses for her”, he added.

In a global collaboration between the Global Music Institute and TATVA – both based in India – and Goldsmiths, University of London alongside UK-based Creative Empirical, this comprehensive survey will, for the first time, capture and quantify the views and experiences of musicians and wider professionals working in the independent music industry. Independent music in India is sometimes referred to as non-film music and concerns the part of the music industry outside of the dominance of Bollywood.
The survey, which partners with the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) for distribution, seeks to understand whether the increased incidence of mental health challenges among musicians and workers in the music sector in India match those found in similar studies around the world.
In a pathbreaking study (see Editor’s Note) into musicians’ mental health by Dr George Musgrave, who leads the Goldsmiths research team, a detailed analysis of global mortality data identified higher risked factors linked to suicide for people working in music sector. Mortality data revealed that musicians were among the top five occupational groups with the highest suicide rate In England. Within occupations categorised as ‘culture, media and sport’, musicians, actors and entertainers were placed in the highest suicide risk group, with overall suicide rates for males being 20% higher than the national average for males, and the rate of suicide among women in these roles was 69% higher than the female national average.
Similarly, data from the United States showed that occupational groups in ‘arts, design, entertainment, sports and media’ – which includes musicians and music workers – had the highest female suicide rate of all occupational groups as recently as 2021.

Likewise, in the largest study in the world undertaken in the UK in 2020, Dr. Musgrave and Dr. Sally Anne Gross found that rates of anxiety and depression among both musicians and music industry workers were significantly higher than rates in the general population.
Dr. Musgrave’s research has pioneered our understanding of occupational stressors that may be associated with musicians’ mental health and suicide risk including: profound emotional precarity, vulnerability to exposure on social media, travelling and touring and the emotional strain that can place on them, and investing their lives and identity in a precarious dream.
Dr. Musgrave’s research over the past fifteen years has prompted calls for their music industries to take musician’s mental health seriously and to move beyond the unhelpful and potentially harmful romanticisation of suicide among this group. However, much of this research has focused on Europe and the United States, until now.
Dr Musgrave, a world-leading expert on the subject, believes that the issue of anxiety, depression, poor well-being, and high suicide rates among musicians is not limited to the US and UK. Likewise, prominent musicians in India are increasingly speaking out about their experiences with mental health challenges: from AR Rahman addressing his struggles with mental health in his younger years, Amaal Mallik’s journey with depression and Badshah’s battles with anxiety disorder. With celebrated voices sharing their experiences, the conversation about mental health is growing in momentum. However, despite this, the music industry in India continues to grapple with mental health stigma, inadequate infrastructure, and a significant lack of research in the field.
‘It’s Time to Talk’ is a groundbreaking and pioneering piece of research. It aims to gain an understanding of the health and wellbeing of people working in the Indian music industry to foster new cultures of care, more forms of tailored support to address industry-specific needs and challenges, and contribute towards building a safer, more empathetic, and sustainable music ecosystem in India.
Dr Musgrave said: “Routine mortality data shows that musicians are an at-risk group for suicide. The data in this recent paper were shocking. But, along with giving pause to those working in the music industry in the UK and US they posed an equally important question about whether these mental health concerns are being replicated across the world.
“Our research conveyed a very uncomfortable truth that the music industry here is beginning to confront. With India’s independent music sector emerging as a major player in the global music industry it’s vital that we understand their lives and their experiences too given the role they play in the global music industry. We need this survey to paint a clear picture of the experiences of musician and their co-workers so that active and meaningful steps can be taken”.

Actress Tisca Chopra’s directorial debut feature “Saali Mohabbat” starring Radhika Apte is set to premiere digitally later this year, following festival runs at IFFI Goa and the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the quiet tensions that exist beneath the surface of relationships, the invisible power struggles, the unspoken expectations, the ways in which love can transform into something darker,” Tisca said.
She added: “This film explores those fragile boundaries of trust, betrayal, and identity but through a deeply female perspective.”
The film, which will premiere on ZEE5, centers on Smita, a small-town housewife whose seemingly ordinary life unravels into a narrative exploring infidelity, deceit and moral ambiguity, reports variety.com.
The thriller-drama also stars Divyendu Sharma, Anurag Kashyap, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sauraseni Maitra and Sharat Saxena.

The producer noted the film features “an ensemble of exceptionally talented actors, each bringing a distinct rhythm, restraint, and truth to their characters, the kind of performances that don’t speak loudly but linger.”
Tisca credited Malhotra with providing crucial early support for the project.
She said: “Manish’s response, just three minutes into the narration, gave me the conviction that this story had found its right home. He and his team supported the film not just with resources, but with genuine artistic trust and emotional understanding, allowing it to retain its raw, unpolished honesty.”
The director described the filmmaking experience as “both terrifying and liberating, terrifying because it demanded emotional vulnerability, and liberating because it allowed me to step outside the boundaries women filmmakers are so often placed within.”

The teaser of the biopic of the late legend Michael Jackson was unveiled on Thursday. The teaser begins with the lead character of Michael Jackson (portrayed by his nephew, Jaafar Jackson) putting on his headphones inside a studio.
A few shots inside the studio, and the teaser cuts to a packed stadium, followed by close-up shots of Michael Jackson’s midriff, one of them showing his iconic finger-snip hand movement.
The teaser then swings to show sticky notes on a board, one of which reads, ‘Beat It’, and other reads, ‘Billie Jean’.
‘Beat It’, which was released in 1983, holds monumental importance in Michael Jackson’s discography, both musically and culturally. It wasn’t just another hit, it was a turning point that cemented him as a global icon and helped define the sound and scope of pop music in the 1980s. The song blended pop, rock, and R&B in a way few songs had before. Featuring Eddie Van Halen’s blazing guitar solo, it bridged racial and genre divides, bringing Black pop to rock audiences and vice versa.
The anti-violence message (“don’t be a macho man”) contrasted sharply with the aggressive musical energy, showing Jackson’s ability to mix social commentary with mass appeal.
‘Billie Jean’, which was released in the same year as ‘Beat It’, is arguably the defining song of Michael Jackson’s career, the one that transformed him from a successful global icon into a musical legend.
The teaser then goes on to show the highs of Michael Jackson’s career, and his global impact as a cultural force, as he performs to packed arenas, and the audience fainting in his show, something that was common occurrence during his concerts.
It ends with another shot from the opening sequence of the teaser as Michael Jackson says, “Can you light the lights for me please” given he was a stage artist who transitioned to studio sessions.
Michael Jackson is considered the ‘King of Pop’. He was a transformative figure in music, dance, and entertainment. He revolutionised pop music through albums like ‘Thriller’, ‘Bad’, and ‘Dangerous’. His innovative music videos, signature dance moves like the moonwalk, and boundary-breaking sound reshaped pop-culture.
