Acclaimed filmmakers Rajkumar Hirani, Shoojit Sircar, Anjali Menon, and Onir have been announced as directors for the second edition of My Melbourne, an Indo-Australian anthology project that continues to spotlight cross-cultural storytelling and social inclusion through cinema.

Produced by Mind Blowing Films and presented by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), the anthology is a continuation of the initiative’s mission to bridge Indian and Australian cultures while highlighting narratives around identity, empathy, and diversity.

Rajkumar Hirani, known for his universally resonant films, expressed his enthusiasm for joining the project: “I am truly excited to be part of a film that connects two vibrant cultures through personal and meaningful storytelling. My Melbourne offers a unique chance to explore intimate human experiences in a globally relatable way.”

Shoojit Sircar echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the power of storytelling across borders. “This initiative is a powerful reminder that stories rooted in local realities can carry universal appeal. I’m honoured to contribute to this dialogue between cultures,” he said.

The first edition of My Melbourne, which premiered in March 2025 across India and Australia, featured works by directors such as Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, and Onir. Each short film addressed vital themes including race, gender, sexuality, disability, and identity.

Anjali Menon, joining the anthology for the first time, highlighted her alignment with the project’s ethos. “These stories reflect the kind of cinema I deeply value narratives that foster empathy and connection. I’m thrilled to be part of this creative journey that transcends continents,” she said.

Returning director Onir called the second chapter a natural progression of a story still unfolding. “Coming back to My Melbourne is incredibly rewarding. It’s an opportunity to explore fresh perspectives while continuing a cause I truly believe in.”

Mitu Bhowmick Lange, CEO of Mind Blowing Films and the driving force behind the initiative, expressed pride in the project’s growing impact. “The response to the first edition of My Melbourne was humbling. This project has shown that authentic stories resonate across borders, and it continues to be a celebration of inclusion and collaboration between India and Australia,” Lange said.

She further emphasised the anthology’s commitment to platforming underrepresented voices, noting its ongoing work with emerging creatives from diverse communities.

The second edition of My Melbourne promises to further enrich the cultural exchange between the two countries through compelling, human-centred cinema.
