Geoffrey Brindley, who is also known as Bradford’s Jesus man, was taken ill last Thursday.
The 88-year-old fell down the stairs at his home in Baildon and is now in the Intensive Care Unit at BRI following a stroke.
Mr Brindley is known by many for walking the streets of the district in a brown robe and sandals, which he has been doing since the 1960s.
Hundreds of well-wishers from the community have taken to social media to wish Mr Brindley a speedy recovery.
Councillor Simon Cooke (Con, Bingley Rural) tweeted: “Bradford legend, now 88. Hope he pulls through.”
Zahid Khan said: “Sad news, hope he gets better and back on his feet real soon. The streets of Bradford won’t be the same without him!”
