Bradford’s ‘Jesus Man’ has sadly died, according to a close friend of his.
Real name, Geoffrey Brindley passed away at 2:30am today at Bradford Royal Infirmary where he was being treated after falling down the stairs in his home.
The 88-year-old was well known throughout the Bradford District, where he was regularly spotted walking the streets in a brown robe and sandals.
Brindley was taken ill on Thursday, 13 August at his home in Baildon where he fell down the stairs and was taken to ICU following a stroke.
Many people have turned to twitter to offer their respects.
One has said: “Gutted to hear about Bradford Jesus man has passed away. Local hero around here. RIP”
Whilst another said: “RIP Bradford Jesus Man, pure legend.”
Bradford Cathedral have set up a book of condolence for people to leave their tributes.
A Facebook campaign has been set up to erect a statue in Geoffrey Brindley’s honour.
The pages ‘Statue for Bradford Jesus Man’ and ‘Build a Statue of Bradford Jesus Man to honour a local hero ‘ have already gathered thousands of members.
