Community in grief as four men killed in car crash following police chase.


Four men have been killed in a crash in the early hours of Thursday morning following a police chase.

The fatal crash happened at 5.30am on Bingley Road, connecting to the Toller Lane junction.

The four men, who were travelling in a grey BMW have been named on social media as Muthaza Choudhury Murthi, Arbaz Hussain, Zeeshan Khalid and Tayyub

The road is currently closed and is likely to remain so throughout most of the day.

Due to the nature of the incident it has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct have launched an investigation.

In a statement the IOPC said the BMW was being followed by an unmarked police car at the time of the crash, in which four men were killed.

Miranda Biddle, IOPC regional director, said: “This is a most tragic incident and our sympathies are with the family and friends of those who have died.

“West Yorkshire Police made a mandatory referral to the IOPC and at 6.24am we declared an independent investigation. Our investigators are attending post incident procedures, have travelled to the scene and have begun gathering evidence.”

Since the news of the fatal accident, members of the local community have gathered to pay their respect, with an outpouring of messages on social media.

Facebook page Janaza Announcement has had more 12,000 views on their post announcing the tragic incident.
