Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin has addressed concerns from local residents over the proposed building of a major industrial park in North Bierley.
Concerns from residents include the development taking place close to a local primary school, the use of small village roads to transport heavy goods to and from the site and the impact the building will have on local safety and the environment.
An estimated 800 jobs could be created for the local area if the industrial park is built by Keyland Developments on the 57-acre site.
So far, 87 local residents have put forward their objections to the building taking place. Tracy Brabin is considering holding a local meeting, or online webinar, for residents to voice their concerns over the proposed development.
She met with the Oakenshaw Residents Association earlier this month and wants to reassure residents that their concerns are being heard by Kirklees Council and the developers as plans progress.
Tracy Brabin said: “Whilst I understand the need for new developments that will bring jobs and investment to local communities, it is vital to ensure that all concerns are heard and addressed throughout the planning process.
“Any decision must take into account the voices of local people who will be most impacted by the development and I will do all I can to make sure they are listened to. I want to work with Kirklees Council and the developers to ensure they are engaging with residents through a full consultation process.”
