YouTube cook, Indiraa, is showing people how to cook with foods that can improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.
The former professional Indian tennis player and fitness instructor launched her YouTube channel, Indiraa’s World, during the first lockdown in March 2020, so that she could share her love of cooking and world foods to others but, in the process, she also discovered more about food and how important cooking can be for her mental health and wellbeing.
Indiraa, who was born in India in the late 50s and raised in England, has always been aware that certain foods like ginger, garlic and turmeric have properties which are of benefit to a person’s health, but what she began to learn is what benefits certain foods such as walnuts, avocadoes, egg-yolk and even salmon can have on your life, as well as low fat dairy products and lean meat.
Over the last 10 months, Indiraa has incorporated more healthy dishes on her YouTube channel and she shows people how to cook using foods with low calories whilst still keeping traditional, mouth-watering flavours which can still be really healthy for you.
Indiraa’s love of South Indian cooking comes from her upbringing, where, as a young girl, she learnt her culinary skills by watching her family chef Joey cook every day.
Indiraa’s father worked in the aviation industry. He became a Director on Air India which gave Indiraa the opportunity to travel around the world.
As a child, she found herself exploring various corners of the world, discovering foods and flavours from all over the globe, which she would end up introducing into her daily cooking in later life.
Being a qualified fitness instructor and a keen cook has meant physical and mental wellbeing is a priority for Indiraa and also key in her drive to achieve certain goals in life!
