Latest COVID-19 figures from Public Health England show a rise in positive cases recorded in South Tyneside and Northumberland over the past week.
The most recent data, recorded over seven days up to Tuesday, August 25, shows 28 new positive cases of the Coronavirus in South Tyneside and 36 new cases in Northumberland.
This is a steep rise from the previous week, showing cases from seven days up to Tuesday, August 18, as South Tyneside only recorded six cases and Northumberland 18 during that period.
The increase has increased the number of people per 100,000 who have tested positive for the Coronavirus in these districts with South Tyneside rising from 4 per 100,000 to 18.5 and Northumberland saw a jump from 5.6 to 11.2 per 100,000.
There was also a slight rise in cases in Gateshead from the previous set of data with positive cases of COVID-19 rising from 16 to 18.
Despite the rises, in particular, North East areas, cases have decreased across four of the seven districts as Newcastle, Sunderland, County Durham and North Tyneside recorded fewer cases up to August 25.
County Durham, however, still has the highest number of positive cases in the North East region despite seeing a fall from 55 positive COVID -19 cases to 44 in the latest set of data.
Rates of infection in the North East also remain comparatively low compared to other areas in the country. The most recent average figures for the seven days up to 25 August show 11.3 people per 100,000 have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
