Desperate Housewives might be heading back to Wisteria Lane, but with a fresh twist. Series creator Marc Cherry has hinted at a potential reboot of the iconic dramedy, which ran from 2004 to 2012 and starred Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, and Marcia Cross. However, this time, the focus may shift to an earlier era.
Cherry recently revealed his interest in revisiting the show’s famous cul-de-sac—but set in a different decade. Speaking to People, he said, “The truth of the matter is that I have a couple of ideas to do it. I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade… I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.”
For Cherry, the most missed “character” from the show isn’t any of the original stars, but Wisteria Lane itself. “That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had,” he explained.
While Cherry’s vision doesn’t involve the original housewives, Eva Longoria (Gabrielle “Gabby” Solis) has made it clear she’d return in a heartbeat. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Longoria said, “I would be the first to sign up for the reboot. I miss Wisteria Lane. I miss the girls. I miss Gabby Solis.”
Teri Hatcher (Susan Mayer), however, expressed doubts, telling E! News, “I don’t think there’ll be a reboot. I think it’s been a long time.”
News of a potential prequel has divided fans. On X (formerly Twitter), reactions ranged from nostalgic hopes for the original cast to excitement over the new concept.
One user demanded, “WE WANT THE OG HOUSEWIVES.” Another commented, “Imagine the drama on Wisteria Lane in the ’60s! Can’t wait to see how the prequel turns out.”
Others saw promise in Cherry’s idea to reimagine the show in a different era: “This would be actually good.”
A prequel set in 1966 could offer an intriguing glimpse into the social dynamics of the time, complete with period-appropriate fashion, cultural shifts, and a retro twist on the signature scandals and secrets. Cherry’s track record of suspenseful narratives suggests a nostalgic yet fresh take on Desperate Housewives.
While details remain scarce and the project is not yet confirmed, Cherry’s comments have reignited excitement among long-time fans and sparked curiosity about what a 1960s Wisteria Lane could offer.
