National Award-winning actor Divya Dutta has opened up about her experience portraying a commanding female character in Mayasabha: The Rise of the Titans, a series set in a traditionally male-dominated world.
Speaking to IANS, Divya said stepping into such a strong role was both overwhelming and fulfilling. “It was absolutely overwhelming, if I may say,” she shared. “But when you perform your role efficiently whether as an actor, a politician, or in any other field, you leave your mark.”
She added that even in male-dominated spaces, powerful work eventually finds recognition. “It may not always receive full appreciation, but it will definitely be acknowledged. People will become aware of the strength and presence you bring.”
Divya plays the role of Iravati in the series, a character she says was shaped by director Deva Katta’s strong vision. “My portrayal of Iravati is exactly what Deva Katta envisioned. He was very clear about what he wanted from me, and that gave me great confidence and clarity as an actor,” she said.
While she doesn’t personally subscribe to any specific belief system, Divya noted that the director’s guidance helped her fully inhabit the character. “This is the tonality he wants. He’d say, ‘Look behind and give that look to make an impact.’ That kind of clarity made it easier for me. A bit of improvisation, mixed with a very defined direction, is what truly brought Iravati to life.”
