Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal’s debut production, Girls Will Be Girls, is set to make its highly anticipated streaming debut on 18 December 2024. Amazon Prime Video has confirmed the release date for this critically acclaimed film, which stars newcomers Preeti Panigrahi and Kesav Binoy Kiron alongside celebrated actress Kani Kusruti.

An Indo-French co-production, the film is brought to life by Chadha and Fazal’s Pushing Buttons Studios in collaboration with French production houses Dolce Vita Films and Crawling Angel Films. Having premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, Girls Will Be Girls has garnered widespread praise at global festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes, and MAMI.

In an earlier interview with SCREEN, Chadha reflected on her first production venture, describing the film as an exploration of the raw and authentic experiences of adolescence. It delves into the rebellious nature of young adulthood and the challenges of navigating intergenerational conflicts and the yearning for independence.

The Fukrey actress expressed her excitement over the film’s universal themes, which have resonated with audiences at global film festivals. “We are thrilled that Girls Will Be Girls has touched hearts worldwide,” Chadha said.

With its upcoming exclusive release on Prime Video, the creators are eager for the film to find a wider audience. Chadha added, “We hope viewers see reflections of their own experiences in Mira’s story,” emphasising the film’s relatability and emotional depth.
