A new generation of the Atreides legacy is coming to the big screen, and it includes a familiar name. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, son of actor Jason Momoa, is set to make his film debut in the highly anticipated Dune 3, joining his father in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic, according to Deadline.
The Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures production will also welcome rising star Ida Brooke, with both newcomers cast in key roles as Leto II and Ghanima, the twin children of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and Chani (Zendaya). These characters, born after the events of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novel, are central figures in the continuing saga.
A Family Affair in the Dune Universe
Nakoa-Wolf, 15, steps into the spotlight alongside his father, Jason Momoa, who will return in a surprising twist, playing a resurrected ghola version of his fan-favorite character Duncan Idaho, as previously teased. This marks a powerful moment of real-life father and son portraying characters in one of cinema’s most expansive sci-fi universes.
Brooke, like Nakoa-Wolf, is a relative newcomer, best known for her appearances in Apple TV’s Silo and the film The Primrose Railway Children.
What We Know About Dune 3
While Dune 3 has yet to receive an official title or release date, sources suggest it will adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, the second novel in the original Dune series. The story takes place 12 years after Paul Atreides ascends as Emperor Muad’Dib, exploring the complex consequences of the Fremen-led jihad waged in his name and the burdens of absolute power.
Director Denis Villeneuve is expected to return for the trilogy’s finale, continuing the critically acclaimed vision he began with Dune: Part One (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024). The two films together grossed $1.12 billion worldwide and earned a combined 15 Oscar nominations, winning eight.
While Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya are anticipated to reprise their roles, an official cast list is still in the works. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Robert Pattinson was in talks to join the project in a villainous role.
Expanding the Dune Universe
Dune 3 isn’t the only project carrying Herbert’s legacy forward. The prequel series Dune: Prophecy, which premiered on Max in November, explores events 10,000 years before Paul Atreides. It has already been renewed for a second season, further cementing Legendary’s commitment to building a long-term, multi-format Dune franchise.
As anticipation builds, the addition of Jason Momoa’s son Nakoa-Wolf and newcomer Ida Brooke adds fresh energy to a story already brimming with epic stakes, philosophical depth, and interstellar intrigue.
