Jessica Mulroney, Meghan Markle’s former best friend, has seemingly snubbed the Duchess of Sussex by not following her newly launched Instagram page, which debuted on New Year’s Day and has already amassed 1.4 million followers. The Canadian stylist, 44, who formed a close friendship with Meghan while she was living in Toronto and filming Suits, has not followed the Duchess’ page, sparking speculation about the state of their relationship following reports of a fallout.
Meghan has used her Instagram to share personal moments, including a reel of herself running on the beach, a trailer for her upcoming Netflix lifestyle show, and a tribute to her late Beagle, Guy. Despite these intimate posts, Mulroney, who was once a significant part of Meghan’s inner circle, has not publicly acknowledged the Instagram page.
Mulroney, married to Ben Mulroney, the son of the former Canadian Prime Minister, was a prominent figure in Meghan’s life during her time as a royal. She joined the Sussexes on their royal tour of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and Tonga, and also attended Meghan’s lavish New York baby shower in 2019. Mulroney was also said to have played an influential role in the events leading to Megxit.
However, the pair’s friendship began to fracture after Mulroney became embroiled in a “white privilege” controversy in 2020. Blogger Sasha Exeter accused Mulroney of taking offence to a post about the Black Lives Matter movement, leading to a public dispute. Mulroney apologised three times publicly, but the fallout resulted in her being dropped by major networks like ABC and CTV, which severed ties with her and pulled her TV show I Do Redo.
Since then, Meghan has distanced herself from Mulroney, a sharp contrast to their once close bond. In 2015, Meghan described Mulroney as the kind of person who “stops the room” when she enters, calling her “savvy, fashionable, and tres cool.” Yet, with no public comment from either side about the split, it appears that the former best friends may have moved on from their once-close relationship.
