Junglee Pictures, the studio behind acclaimed titles such as Raazi, Talvar and Badhaai Do, has announced its next major release, HAQ, a gripping courtroom drama set to hit cinemas on 7 November 2025.

Known for telling stories that start important conversations, Junglee Pictures describes HAQ as its “bravest work yet”. Directed by Suparn S Varma (Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, The Family Man, Rana Naidu) and written by Reshu Nath, the film is inspired by a landmark Supreme Court judgment and produced in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios.

HAQ stars Yami Gautam Dhar as a mother taking on the system and society in a fierce fight for justice, opposite Emraan Hashmi, who plays both her husband and a renowned lawyer. Their clash in the courtroom ignites a national debate on identity, love, and gender ideology.

Speaking about the role, Yami Gautam Dhar said: “This story moved me deeply. It’s not just Shazia’s fight, it’s a reflection of the strength and resilience of countless women who’ve been told to stay silent. Portraying her demanded empathy, conviction, and an unshakeable belief in justice. This film is more than a role for me, it’s a reminder that it takes just one voice to make a difference.”

Emraan Hashmi described the film’s emotional intensity, saying: “The courtroom becomes a warzone of ideas, faith, identity, love, and justice colliding all at once. It’s powerful, provocative, and deeply human.”

Director Suparn S Varma called HAQ “more than a courtroom battle”, adding: “It’s the story of a voice that shook the nation. When women were expected to stay silent, one voice echoed across the country. It is a story of courage, self-respect, and an unwavering fight for identity, dignity, and equality.”

The film also features Vartika Singh in a pivotal debut role, alongside Sheeba Chaddha, Danish Hussain, and Aseem Hattangady.

Amrita Pandey, CEO of Junglee Pictures, said: “We have always told stories that are inspired by real events, challenge norms, and celebrate human resilience. With HAQ, director Suparn Varma brings an intensity and emotional depth that is both powerful and entertaining, while writer Reshu crafts a narrative that feels relevant, moving, and deeply human. Both Yami and Emraan have delivered outstanding performances that will stay with audiences long after they leave the theatre.”

Set against the backdrop of a legal and moral conflict that began in the 1980s, HAQ explores the ongoing struggle between personal belief and secular law. It asks timely questions: Should justice have a religion? And is it time for One Nation, One Law?

Inspired by true events and based on the book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti by Jigna Vora, HAQ serves as a reminder that courage, when combined with knowledge and resilience, can move mountains.

HAQ releases in cinemas on 7 November 2025.

Justice for one is justice for all. Justice is not personal. It is universal.
