“Gaddi hai toh hum hain”. If there’s a throne, there’s Kaleen Bhaiya. The most feared man in Purvanchal is ready to hit the big screen!
Fans of the hit series Mirzapur, which kept many of us glued to Amazon Prime during lockdown, have something exciting to look forward to: Pankaj Tripathi is back as the ruthless crime lord Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, but this time in a movie format.
Excel Entertainment has announced Mirzapur: The Movie, unveiling a striking character poster of Kaleen Bhaiya.
In the poster, Tripathi embodies his iconic character against a dramatic backdrop, giving off that unsettling calm we all recognise.
Another poster featuring a grand empty throne surrounded by weapons suggests a powerful storyline ahead.
The tagline says it all: “Gaddi hai toh hum hain,” implying that a throne means power and existence.
Producer Farhan Akhtar, the creative force behind the franchise, has confirmed the film will hit theatres on September 4, 2026.
Great news for fans, as the core cast is returning! Ali Fazal is back as Guddu Pandit, Shweta Tripathi reprises her role as Golu Gupta, and Abhishek Banerjee returns as the essential Compounder. Surprisingly, Divyenndu is also returning as Munna Bhaiya, despite his character’s death in Season 2, but the details are being kept under wraps for now.
Filming wrapped up in February 2026, as shared by both Shweta Tripathi and Ali Fazal on their social media.
The talented Gurmmeet Singh, who directed some of the best episodes of the original series, is at the helm again, ensuring that this isn’t just a cash grab but a creative continuation of the beloved story.
For British South Asian audiences, Mirzapur has always meant more than just a show; it’s become a cultural reference, quoted in chats and family groups, often leading to a newfound interest in Bhojpuri slang.
Seeing it make the leap to cinemas, alongside other Bollywood hits in cities like Bradford and Birmingham, feels like a monumental moment. The teaser drops on Thursday, June 25.
