Here we go again… again! After years of speculation, Amanda Seyfried has finally confirmed that ‘Mamma Mia 3’ is on the cards-and it sounds like fans of the beloved musical franchise are in for another sun-soaked adventure.
In a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight, Seyfried, who plays the charming Sophie, couldn’t keep the secret any longer. Teasing the highly anticipated sequel, she revealed, “Oh…yeah, Mamma Mia 3 is happening. It’s going to happen in Greece, hopefully before 20…38.”
While she remained tight-lipped about the official production timeline, Seyfried did hint that plans are moving forward. Offering a glimpse into her potential filming schedule, she added, “Summer of 2026—that’s just my schedule.”
The actress also joked about the chaotic nature of getting the cast back together, recalling the whirlwind around Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018). “I remember I was feeding my 6-day-old baby, and they were like, ‘Mamma Mia, it’s happening! August. Gotta be in the UK,’ and I was like (faux crying), ‘I just had a baby, I can’t do this!’”
It’s no small feat to coordinate a star-studded ensemble, but Seyfried’s comments suggest that schedules are aligning and the story is falling into place.
Rumours of a third instalment have been swirling for years. Back in August 2024, Christine Baranski (who plays the fabulous Tanya) revealed that she had discussed the possibility of returning with franchise creator Judy Craymer.
The first two films-Mamma Mia! (2008) and its sequel were box office sensations, blending ABBA’s timeless hits with heartwarming (and often hilarious) drama against the stunning backdrop of the Greek isles. Fans have been clamouring for another chapter ever since.
While there’s no official word on whether ‘Mamma Mia 3’ has begun production, Seyfried’s playful confirmation has certainly cranked up the excitement.
Until then, you can revisit the musical magic both films are available to stream on OTT platforms. Dust off your disco boots and prepare for another round of drama, dazzling performances, and, of course, plenty of ABBA classics.
