Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho yesterday Manchester United have now confirmed the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as caretaker manager until the end of the season

A statement from the club confirmed that “Solskjær will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager.”

The 45-year-old used to play for Manchester United between 1996 – 2007 and in 1999 when the club won 3 trophies in one season it was Solskjaer’s winning goal which helped Manchester United win the European cup.

On the club’s website Solskjaer said: “Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club,”
