The Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Mumtaz Hussain, has praised the “remarkable community spirit” of residents across the district when adhering to the social distancing measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Rates of infection in Kirklees have remained above the national average over the past three weeks and the council continues to support residents with up to date information on their interactive online dashboard and increased testing. Nearly 5,000 people are being tested per week in the district currently.
Cllr Mumtaz Hussain praised the people of Kirklees for their response to the local lockdown restrictions and thanked residents for the community spirit they have shown throughout the entire coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “As we all continue to persevere with the restrictions necessary to bring the Coronavirus pandemic under control, I have been truly proud to see the remarkable community spirit which clearly exists in Kirklees.
We have all seen so many of our family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues come together as one, giving selflessly to support each other as a community.
It is often the case that difficult times bring out the best in people. As Mayor, I have met incredible people doing incredible things – never more so than over the past few months.
I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for the part you are playing through these difficult times – for the amazing steadfastness of our key workers, the generous and caring actions of ordinary people to help others, and the positive determination of residents to follow the rules and abide by the restrictions.
Although we have seen our rates of infection drop over the last few weeks in Kirklees, it remains above the national average, and so I am grateful to all residents for observing the new restrictions announced recently. Your commitment will ensure the health of others and will guarantee that the new measures are lifted at the earliest opportunity. We all have a part to play.
On behalf of everyone in Kirklees, a sincere THANK YOU.”
