In a harrowing account of her escape from the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, Meryl Streep revealed the extreme lengths she went to in order to flee the flames that threatened her home. The fires, which caused widespread destruction across celebrity enclaves like Pacific Palisades, Malibu, and Santa Monica, left many residents scrambling for safety, including the iconic actress.
In an interview with New York Magazine’s Intelligencer, Streep’s nephew, Abe Streep, shared the gripping details of the actor’s near-miss with disaster. According to Abe, Meryl received the evacuation order, but just as she attempted to leave, a large tree crashed down across her driveway, completely blocking the sole exit from her property. Faced with no clear way out, Meryl resorted to drastic measures.
Determined to escape the encroaching flames, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbour and cut a ‘car-sized’ hole in the fence she shared with her neighbouring property. “She drove through their yard to escape,” Abe explained, highlighting Meryl’s quick thinking in the face of danger.
Although Abe did not disclose whether Streep’s house was affected by the fire, the incident highlights the widespread devastation caused by the wildfires. Many celebrities in the area were not as fortunate.
Several high-profile figures tragically lost their homes to the devastating blaze, including Mandy Moore, Anna Faris, Paris Hilton, Bozoma Saint John, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Spencer Pratt, Heidi Montag, Cary Elwes, Diane Warren, Cameron Mathison, Ricki Lake, Jhené Aiko, and record producer Lou Adler. These celebrities shared their heartache on social media, posting images of the scorched remnants of their properties.
As Los Angeles continues to recover from the destruction, the fires serve as a stark reminder of the unpredictable dangers posed by wildfires, and the importance of quick thinking in life-threatening situations.
